5 Tips to Save on Auto Insurance
Published on Apr 19, 2018If you think you're paying more than you need to for car insurance, we can help. If you’re looking to make your monthly premiums manageable, here are the five most important things to know.
Tip #1: Stick with the same AGENCY for all your insurance
Notice my empasis on agency? Whether you're looking into insuring your auto, home, business, or life, there are insurance companies we work with that offer discounts by keeping your policies with the same agency. Not all types of agencies have this option available. Many agents only work with one insurance company and can only offer a multipolicy discount if they insure your home and auto with that one company. We are able to mix and match insurance companies to find the best coverages, discounts and premiums that makes the best sense for your insurance needs.
Tip #2: Having good credit can help lower your insurance premium
You’re probably familiar with credit scores and how they affect the rates you get on loans. They can also affect the rate you get on your insurance premium too. If your credit has gotten better recently, have your agent re-check your insurance score because it might help lower your premium.
Tip #3: Lower miles = lower rates
There are a lot of different discounts available, but one that people sometimes forget to inform their agent about is how many miles they drive a year and how each vehicle is used. Since each insurance company is different, make sure your agent knows so they get you the best discounts available.
Usage Based Insurance Option (Telematics) - this is a newer option that some insurance companies are offering. By installing a little device in your vehicle or an app on your smartphone to monitor your driving, you would be eligible for a discount on your auto insurance. If you are a safe driver with good driving habits, you can earn a discount and sometimes it can be a pretty big discount. Ask your agent for details.Tip #4: Review your insurance with your agent
Talk to your agent instead of just taking your insurance for granted. A good agent will be able to make recommendations on how you could adjust your insurance to meet your needs better. Sometimes these recommendations help you save by not purchasing additional insurance or options that you don't need. Also know that the lowest priced option isn't always the cheapest option too. Some options that might be available on your auto insurance might cost a little now, but can save you a lot if you ever needed to use it... like roadside assistance or a $0 glass deductible.
Tip #5: Use an independent insurance agent
Mary Siebert Insurance Agency is an independent insurance agency and we work with many different insurance companies. This gives us options so we can review our client's coverage needs to find policies and coverages to match those needs and at the lowest premiums. If you haven't worked with an independent insurance broker before or would like to see how we can help you, please give us a call at (636) 343-4000.
